Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters Voice Support for The Expansion of Gaming in Northern New Jersey

EDISON -- Executive Secretary-Treasurer John Ballantyne issued the following statement with regards to SCR-185, which would expand casino gaming to North Jersey with the possible creation of up to two casinos:

“We strongly support this proposal. The expansion of gaming is critical to the growth of New Jersey’s economy. This initiative will put thousands of hard working men and women in the region’s building trades to work in good paying jobs. SCR-185 will generate increased revenue for our state, while bringing valuable resources to sustain Atlantic City. We urge the leaders of the legislature to work together to advance SCR-185 and present it to the voters for consideration in 2016.”

Second Chances Program

Kevin Fell, a young man from Trenton struggled in his youth to battle his substance abuse issues, as a result he found himself behind bars numerous times before the age of twenty five. Now a second year apprentice Kevin looks back at that time in his life as a learning experience. “Jail woke me up; I got sober and decided to rebuild my life”said Kevin. He is currently working toward his dream of purchasing his own home.  A goal that would not be attainable if it hadn't been for the guidance and support of council representatives Anthony Verrelli and Scott Macduff from LU 254. Both men mentored the one time college student and helped him to transform his life. Kevin is now one of the many men who has received a second chance from the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters to start a new career as a carpenter.

Morris County Freeholder Win

“When carpenters work, New Jersey works.” On the first Tuesday in June that saying rang true when two NRCC endorsed Morris County freeholder candidates were victorious in winning a tough Republican primary. Morris County is a Republican dominated district, making primary elections extremely significant. Carpenters met with all of the candidates running, but in the end only John Cesaro and Christine Myers proved worthy of our endorsement. Cesaro and Myers demonstrated that they understood the true meaning of Carpenter values.
