Hamburg contractor faces $56,400 in OSHA fines

Kevin Burke Home Improvement, a Hamburg-based contractor, faces proposed penalties of $56,400 from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

OSHA said its inspectors on April 16 observed employees at a Lackawanna site working on a roof and scaffold without fall protection, and told the employer to ensure its workers had proper fall protection before continuing work. OSHA said an inspector returned the following day and found the fall protection equipment was removed or not in use.

OSHA cited the company for five “serious” and two “willful” safety violations. The company declined to comment on the citations.

The home improvement firm was given 15 business days from receipt of the citations to comply, meet informally with OSHA’s area director, or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
