The Albany Business Review is reporting that a plan for a 100 to 110-room hotel at the site of the former Lazare auto dealership on Wolf Road is in limbo, now that the 6.5-acre property has a new owner.
Developer Howard Carr had the property under contract, according to the report, and a Holiday Inn Express & Suites was planned for the site. It was one of four hotels being planned, under construction, or recently completed along Wolf Road.
A Staybridge Inn & Suites opened last month, while a Home2 Suites by Hilton is under construction on Metro Park Road just off Wolf Road. First Columbia, meanwhile, plans a seven-story hotel at the corner of Wolf and Albany Shaker Roads.
Tom Burke, a principal in Malta-based The Burke Cos., told reporter Michael DeMasi of the Albany Business Review that he had “big plans” for the Lazare site, and wasn’t ruling anything in or out, including a hotel. But he said that he saw a need for “an upscale retailer that’s not represented in the market.”
Joe LaCivita, Colonie’s director of planning and economic development, said Burke might have “a little bit of mixed use in mind. We don’t know what it is.” But he pointed out that Burke already had successful developments along the Wolf Road corridor.
Neither Burke nor Carr could be reached for comment.
