Union carpenters from Local 254 hosted a blood drive at the headquarters of the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters, 91 Fieldcrest Avenue, Raritan Plaza II, Edison, from 8:30 to 1 p.m., Thursday, April 30th. Blood donations were made on the first floor lobby.
"We offered a challenge to our union members to stop by and donate blood to the Red Cross,” says Manuel "Manny” Ortega, co-chair of Local 254’s Volunteer Organizing Committee and a board member of the Southern Shore Chapter of the American Red Cross. "Those who donated blood can be sure it goes to someone who needs it.”
A single donation can help upwards of three people, according to the American Red Cross.
"Giving blood is an important way of helping people, even if you can’t see them,” says Ortega. "Union carpenters are committed to providing community service and this is just one more example of our efforts. We constantly ask our brothers and sister to assist those who need help and they always come through with a smile and a helping hand.”
