On May 18th, Erie County, NY Executive Mark Poloncarz signed into law a 30 percent apprentice graduation requirement for all contractors working on Erie County projects. WKBW-Buffalo did a great story on the new law and interviewed 3rd year apprentice Nicole Lamson (from Northeast Carpenters’ Local 276) about her career as a Union carpenter.

I’m writing in response to Press of Atlantic City’s April 19th editorial: “Wind energy projects should get same treatment, not special deals.”The newspaper’s extremely short sighted and revisionist history fails to realize that the Fishermen’s Energy project has been on the books for nearly a decade and has been hindered by the Presidential political aspirations of our former Governor.

Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters Local 277 Carpenter Joseph Etta Celebrates His 100th Birthday

Joseph Etta, a retired carpenter from Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters’ Local 279 celebrated his 100th birthday this past Sunday. Joseph – who was initiated into the Union in 1966 – is a resident of Cold Spring, New York and began his longstanding, successful career with Carpenters Local 323.

After being initiated in the Carpenters Union in the 1960's, Joseph began his career as a Union carpenter first starting out in what was then Local 323. The Local then changed to Local 19 and is presently Local 279.

"It's Carpenters like Joseph that give the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters pride in our membership and dedication that exists within our Council," said Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters President and New Jersey Regional Manager William Sproule. "He truly embodies everything it means to be a skilled, devoted carpenter and we are so grateful for his tireless support and years of service."

Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters to Hold Sisters in the Brotherhood Training Exhibition in Philadelphia

 

April 25, 2018 – Tomorrow, the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters (NRCC) will host a Sisters in the Brotherhood (SIB) Training Exhibition to introduce Philadelphia construction contractors to the program and to Sisters who are enrolled in the first-ever SIB pre-apprenticeship program in the City of Philadelphia. The Carpenters Union is the only Union in the City of Philadelphia to have a pre-apprenticeship program for women.

The Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters Endorses Matthew Malin for the New York State Assembly District 17 Seat

April 23, 2018 – Albany, NY –  The Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters (NRCC) is pleased to announce its endorsement of Matthew Malin in his campaign for New York State Assembly District 17 seat. Malin, a Democrat, will face off against Republican John Mikulin in the special election on April 24th.

Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters Local 167 Council Representatives Brian L. Tamburro and Fran Loughney attended career day at E. Dieruff High School in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania. The two NRCC representatives spoke with various high school students about the wonderful opportunities a career in carpentry can provide with zero college debt.

Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters' Local 277 Showcase Carpentry Workshop at Binghamton High School

On April 11th, 7 members of Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters' Local 277 showed students at Binghamton High School how to apply basic carpentry skills to their everyday lives as part of the school's "Brotherz and Sisterz" after school program. As part of the demonstration, students took part in assembling library boxes and birdhouses that will be used in locals town in Binghamton, New York.
