The Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters' Executive Secretary-Treasurer John Ballantyne has been recently appointed to Philadelphia District Attorney-Elect Larry Krasner's Transition Committee.
Prior to Election Day 2017, Krasner visited our City of Philadelphia offices on various occasions and talked to our council representatives about his belief that existing labor laws and payroll fraud/worker misclassification need to be enforced. We welcome that sentiment as there are various contractors throughout the City that exploit their workforce by paying workers under the table, not paying healthcare or retirement benefits, while shirking the City and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania out of local and State tax revenue.
While Krasner had a diverse collection of endorsements; the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters was the only building trade organization in the City of Philadelphia to support his candidacy during the DA primary election.
"He talked during his primary speech of seeking justice. We want justice too on the job site and for the people of Philadelphia and we think Larry Krasner will deliver that as the City's next District Attorney," said Ballantyne in his endorsement of Krasner."As contributing partners to the economic, civic and social vitality of the City of Philadelphia and the state of Pennsylvania, we believe in taking an active part in the political process and endorsing those who support our vision, align with our values and who will do what's best for our members ."
Due to the fact that there are various contractors operating within the city that exploit their workforce through under the table wages and do not pay alternative healthcare or retirement benefits, they are undermining the City and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and cheating them out of Local and State tax dollars. EST John Ballantyne and DA-Elect Krasner will continue to work towards addressing these issues and bringing justice to PA's workforce and unions.
