On Friday, representatives from the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters joined representatives from other trades to support United State Senator Robert Menendez as he unveiled his plans to address the nation’s federal transit infrastructure needs.
The senator proposed a $116 billion dollar investment in transit funding to be distributed throughout the course of six-years. For the past few months public transportation has been operating on a series of extensions to the current federal highway and transit funding legislation. This has hurt the construction industry because transit agencies rely on a long term plans to execute projects. “--We support the reauthorization of the public transportation bill because it will help New Jersey rebuild its failing infrastructure and create more opportunities for our residents to go to work.” said NRCC Council Representative Alex Lopez as he addressed the crowd. As union Carpenter’s it our duty to support legislation that creates more opportunities for our members to go to work.
